Squirrel Repellent Options

In our continued fight against the common squirrel pest, we add the squirrel repellent to our arsenal.

These products usually include a variety of ingredients. Capsaicin, the ingredient found in hot peppers is common as is black or white pepper. It is thought that squirrels will find the taste distasteful. Although it may work at deterring some squirrels, others if hungry enough won’t go away.

Slinky Squirrel Baffle

If you ever doubted how intelligent and determined squirrels are, check out this video.

Here you’ll see a slinky being used as a bird-feeder baffle. Very ingenious and it may prove effective, against some squirrels.

Safflower Seeds For Birds

Squirrel Repellent Seeds?

Another option for feeding birds and not squirrels are safflower seeds. I’ve read that birds enjoy eating these seeds but they may act as a squirrel repellent. This might be worth trying out if you’ve exhausted other methods of deterring squirrels. Although I would suspect if a squirrel is hungry enough, especially in the dead of winter, they would eat them anyway.
